Event Facilites

AFOOK.jpg

The Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium — originally named Hilo Civic Auditorium — was built to promote sports and other cultural events. It was the first building completed in 1957 on what would become the Ho‘olulu Park Complex. It serves as the home for the Vulcans men's and women's basketball teams. Ho‘olulu Park Complex is owned and operated by the County of Hawai‘i in Hilo and is a five-minute drive from the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo campus

The Vulcan Gymnasium serves as the home for Hawai‘i Hilo Women's Volleyball.

It also serves as the practice courts for both the Hawai‘i Hilo Men's and Women's Basketball programs. The Vulcan Gym is also home to UH Hilo Intramural Sports, hosted by the Campus Recreation and Wellness Department, as well as the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo's Fall Commencement Ceremonies.

Kekuaokalani Gymnasium.jpeg

Kekuaokalani Gymnasium is a versatile, 20,880-square-foot community recreation facility located within Kailua Park in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii. The naturally ventilated building features a wood-floor layout that can be configured for multiple cross-court games of basketball, volleyball, or badminton, complete with telescopic wooden bleachers for spectators. Serving as a central hub for local sports and events, the gymnasium is conveniently situated right next to the Kona Community Aquatic Center, lighted outdoor basketball courts, and expansive athletic fields.

Damien Memorial High School.jpg

The Damien Memorial School gymnasium is a central athletic and community facility located on the school's campus in the Kalihi neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii. Serving as the home court for indoor sports like volleyball and basketball, the facility is also utilized for large school gatherings, including the annual Kamiano Luʻau. A unique and standout feature of this high school gym is its massive, energy-efficient ventilation system. The ceiling is outfitted with two 24-foot diameter, low-speed fans—similar to the cooling technology used in the Hawaii Convention Center and professional sports stadiums—which move a high volume of air to keep the interior comfortable for student-athletes and spectators alike.
